Special Advocate Visiting Philippines for Launch of National Financial Inclusion Strategy

In her capacity as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development, Queen Máxima will visit the Philippines from 29 June to 1 July. She will meet with a wide range of leaders from public and private sectors and with clients, and will participate in the launch of the country’s National Strategy for Financial Inclusion.

The Philippines is a leader in the financial inclusion movement, and the Special Advocate is visiting at the invitation of the government and the Central Bank. On 30 June she will be in Manila to discuss financial inclusion with representatives of international organizations and business. Later she will visit the farming province of Cavite, where she will meet with clients and discuss the impact of financial services on their families and businesses.

On 1 July Queen Máxima will deliver a speech in Manila at the launch of the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion. This government action plan, coordinated by the Central Bank, aims to enhance cooperation between ministries, government agencies, and the private sector to improve the population’s access to financial services. She will also discuss the national strategy with implementing parties, including the Central Bank and government ministries, and will meet with the secretary of finance, as well as with the speaker of the House of Representatives and the Senate president.
