Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development (UNSGSA), will host a special 15-year anniversary event during the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, 25 September, from 1:15–2:30 pm EST.
The anniversary event celebrates 15 years of remarkable progress in financial inclusion, highlighting its pivotal role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Today, 76% of people worldwide have an account at a financial institution or through a mobile money provider, an increase of over 50% in the past 10 years.
Featuring leaders from the UN, public and private sectors, and international organizations, the event will highlight best practices contributing to financial inclusion progress globally and explore forward-looking priorities, including the role of financial health in fostering sustainable growth and resilience.
The event is co-hosted by the Permanent Missions to the UN of the Republic of India, the Republic of Indonesia, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Republic of Peru, the Republic of the Philippines, and the United Republic of Tanzania.
